Internal temperature distribution for different-sized crystals exposed to the same (reference) beam. The target area irradiated by the source beam is held fixed but more energy is deposited for thicker crystals. However, the maximum internal temperature difference remains almost the same in all cases and the outside temperature difference decreases owing to the added surface area for convection. Refer to Table 8[link] for the actual temperature differences.
