With Oi and Os as the two foci of the ellipsoid upon which the reflection surface sits, an X-ray from an off-axis point source at (rs, θs) on one focal plane is reflected from the ellipsoidal surface at azimuth angle position ϕ, and reaches an off-axis image position (ri, θi) of the other focal plane. These three points are related by equation (1)[link] in this paper.
