TEM images of gold nanoparticles formed by X-ray exposure after replacing de-ionized H2O with a 0.01 M NaCl solution: (a) 30 s; (b) 10 min for a 10 ml precursor solution ([HAuCl4] = 1 mM). These results reveal the effects of a stronger ionic strength of the solution.
