A sequence of coronal slices extracted from different positions through the three-dimensional tomographic volume of the rat brain, reconstructed with a pixel size of 7.4 µm. The reconstructions display quantitatively the mass density according to the colourmap shown. Slice 9b illustrates that of 9 but with an alternative colourmap, with a lower limit of 0.5 g cm−3 as opposed to 0.7 g cm−3, in order to reveal the background liquid paraffin together with the air bubbles within the sample.
