Basic flow chart of the calculation and data analysis scheme of reflection-mode EXAFS spectra, exemplarily shown for the Au L3-edge EXAFS of a thin gold layer on a SiO2 substrate. The optical constants β(E) and δ(E) of the Au layer can be either approximated by those of a reference compound (e.g. polycrystalline Au) or by ab initio calculations.
