Density behaviour of the sound velocity as measured in liquid water at high pressure. The high-frequency sound velocity v∞ (full circles: LVC; open circles and full diamonds: DAC) shows clearly a different behaviour with respect to that of the low-frequency. The density evolution of v0 at 277 and 297 K was obtained from the water equation of state. The solid lines show their extrapolation to higher densities where water would freeze.
