The effect of iron impurity on the measured Debye sound velocity of Fe3C for a conceivable range of η between 0.6 and 1.7. The ratio between measured and actual Debye sound velocity VD/VD,Fe3C deviates from 1 as the concentration of iron impurity (α) increases. The density ratio between iron and Fe3C (ρratio) is ∼1.05 for b.c.c.-iron (solid curves) and ∼1.09 for h.c.p.-iron (dotted curves). The measured VD is larger than the true value of VD,Fe3C for η = 0.6, and smaller for η = 1.7.
