S L2,3 emission spectra from the bare substrates without any ZnO cover layer for sample A [thin layer of MoS2 (∼26 nm), unsaturated emission], sample B (CIS, saturated) and sample C (CIGSSe, saturated). The shape of the SXES spectra is different owing to the different chemical environments of the probed S atoms in the specimen. Spectra have been corrected to standard excitation conditions. Therefore, the different specific emissivities owing to the different elemental compositions of the samples also become apparent. The ratio of the integrated emission intensities (135–165 eV) are as follows: sample A:sample B:sample C = 1.0:0.59:0.29.
