The two energies, E1 and E2, chosen to be below and above, respectively, the absorption edge for elemental mapping. At the absorption edge the mass absorption coefficient of the edge element jumps from μM(E1) to μM(E2), whereas the coefficient of the matrix falls off proportional to E−3.
