The k2-weighted EXAFS signals above the L1- and L3-edges of Ba2+ ions in aqueous solution, normalized to the respective edge jumps. The opposite phases of the signals ensure almost total cancellation over a wide interval, 2.7–6.3 Å−1, between the XANES residuals on the low-k side and noise on the high-k side, displaying the non-structural 4d resonance at ∼5.5 Å−1.
