Plots of pump–probe signals for different relative delay times [\delta{t}^{\rm{relative}} = {\delta{t}{/}{\sigma_{\rm{M}}}}] (a) and of [\hat{\eta}_{\bf{h}}] as a function of [\delta{t}^{\rm{relative}}] for different relative lifetimes [\tau^{\rm{relative}} = {\tau{/}{\sigma_{\rm{M}}}}] (b). In (a) the grey curves (green online) represent the laser pump pulse and the black curves (blue online) the X-ray probe pulse. In (b) the full curves represent the original [\hat{\eta}_{\bf{h}}] model, and the dashed ones the approximated [{\sigma_{\rm{M}}\simeq{\sigma_{\rm{xray}}}}] model. The parameter [\sigma_{\rm{M}} = ( \sigma_{\rm laser}^2+\sigma_{\rm xray}^2)^{1/2}] is ∼40 ps in our experiments. The parameter [\delta{t}] is the delay time between laser pump and X-ray pump pulse maxima.
