Graph of the sample temperature (black squares) and reactor wall temperature (red circles) as a function of laser pumping current (maximum current is 18 A). The pictures show the attachment point for the thermocouples. The experiments were performed using a gold foil sample (25 µm thick) supported on a doped Si substrate (350 µm thick) to improve absorption of the laser light and for temperature homogenization. During the experiments H2 was flowed through the reactor cell at a 40 ml min−1 flow rate and 100 kPa. Cooling of the system is achieved by N2 flow.
