Xe 5p3/2 photoemission spectra measured with gratings of (a) 600 lines mm−1 (G600) and (b) 1200 lines mm−1 (G1200) at a photon energy of 400 eV. The opening of the exit slit was 20 µm. The energy resolution (ΔE) and absolute energy (Ehν) of the X-rays were derived from the width and position of the Xe 5p3/2 photoemission peak. The solid circles and solid line represent the raw experimental data and the result of peak fitting, respectively. Both the G600 and G1200 gratings achieved an energy resolving power (E/ΔE) of more than 10000, i.e. 12500 for G600 and 13600 for G1200.
