In the schematics of the magnetic structures, the direction of the magnetic fields is shown on each magnet. Note that the period of the side-row magnets is twice that of the center-row magnets. In the horizontal figure-8 undulator, the electron trajectory resembles the figure of eight (8); in the vertical figure-8 undulator, it resembles the figure of infinity (∞).
