The first zone plate generates an illumination cone that is divergent behind the sample and hollow due to the central stop. The shadow in the lower right corner is caused by the pinhole mount that was fixed in front of the CCD camera. (b) cSTXM with second zone plate in focus. The illumination cone is focused in the optical axis. The bright ring is residual zero light from the second zone plate (no OSA in detection path).
