Left: schematic view of a wall between two holes in a cylindrical X-ray lens and the rotation to continuously change the focusing power. Right: two planes in that wall at different distances from the lens center. The rotation introduces the same scaling factor in the amount of material traversed by the X-rays, and thus the same change in the phase advance leading to focusing.
