Energy calibration and resolution. Sweeping the energy threshold (millivolts) yields the detector's energy resolution by fitting the derivative of the count rate to a Gaussian curve. We can thus distinguish X-ray fluorescence from neighboring elements and use the peak position to calibrate the detector (inset).
