Valence-band photoemission spectra of Pt measured at position 1 (Pos. 1) in Fig. 6(d)[link], those of the as-grown NiO substrate (Pos. 2) and those of the voltage-applied NiO (Pos. 3) (bottom) recorded by the p- and s-polarized photons. Is/Ip spectra for all three positions are plotted in the lower panel. Note that the data points ranging from 0.4 eV to the Fermi level in the Is/Ip spectrum for as-grown NiO are removed to eliminate the divergent behavior due to the gap opening.
