Illustration of the Ewald sphere with radius 1/λ for the energy scan, where λ is the wavelength of the X-ray radiation. According to the relation between the energy E and the wavelength, E = hν = hc/λ, the radius of the Ewald sphere is proportional to the energy. Therefore, the internal circle corresponds to the minimum energy and the outer circle corresponds to the maximum energy. Here, −k0 characterizes the direction of ideal alignment while k′ (the red arrow) is the real alignment and deviates slightly from the ideal case. The deviation in this figure is exaggerated.
