Figure 5
Variation in the angle between the plane formed by (a) atoms C10R, C11R, O1R and C12R, and (b) atoms C1P, C2P, C10P and C11P and the xy plane during the photoreaction. For better comparison the range of the axes was set to be the same. The C10R—C11R(O1R)—C12R fragment was chosen for monitoring purposes, because it is situated in the middle part of the reactant and should not be influenced strongly by intermolecular interactions. The C1P—C2P—C10P—C11P ring is the cyclobutane ring formed in the photoreaction. Standard uncertainties for μ and η are in the range 0.15–3 and 0.2–1.3°, respectively. The biggest changes in these parameters are 14.4 (3) and 18.6 (13)°, respectively, which indicates that they are statistically significant at the 3σ level, i.e. with 99.7% probability.
