Final decoration of the decagonal cluster A (23 Å) along the periodic direction. (a) x5 = 0, (b) [1\over 4] or [3\over 4], (c) [1\over 2] and (d) projection of all layers. The cluster has no tenfold symmetry but only a mirror plane, indicated on the figures. The innermost shells for all the layers are disordered and three out of ten possible sites are occupied in each case. The outermost shells are also disordered, due to the overlaps and surroundings of clusters. Sections of the CN 12 polyhedra (distorted) are given in gold lines and gold dashed lines. Dy: blue; Zn: red; Mg: green.
