In (a), a nine-residue helix has been fitted to the experimental P2 myelin density with the SST system and then local averaging has been used to evaluate the directionality. In (b), the helix has been flipped and RS fitted and the density locally averaged. The fitting of the Cβ of the central residue indicates that the directionality is correct in (a) and wrong in (b).
