(a) Projection and (b) schematic of a body centered tetragonal (b.c.t.) phase related to the face centered cubic (f.c.c.) phase. In (a), numbers inside circles indicate the z positions of atoms in the face centering translation symmetry. From (a), clearly atetra = btetra = acubic/21/2 = bcubic/21/2. This suggests that, for the cubic related tetragonal phase, [a_{{\rm tetra}} \simeq c_{{\rm tetra}}/{2}^{1/2}]. In (b), for clarity, only atoms related to the b.c.t. case are shown.
