Figure 9
Measured diffraction-line broadening induced by loading [given as the integral breadth broadening contribution [\Delta\beta], equation (9)[link]] as a function of [\sin^2\psi] for an Ni dog-bone specimen in the loaded state (filled circles), for reflections 111, 200, 220, 311 and 331. The loading was achieved by applying a uniaxial load of 100 MPa to the specimen ([\sigma_{11}^{\rm res} = 125] MPa), resulting in an overall uniaxial stress state of approximately [\sigma_{11} = 225] MPa. The broadening contributions as predicted according to the isotropic Reuss (open boxes) and the anisotropic Vook–Witt (open diamonds) grain-interaction models, for the case of an untextured polycrystalline aggregate, have been indicated as well.
