Figure 3 Plot of axial length versus lanthanide crystal radius for a 9-coordinate lanthanide in the Ln4S3(Si2O7) structure family (Ln = lanthanide element). Axial length decreases as the atomic mass of the lanthanide increases owing to the lanthanide contraction. Yttrium fits on the plot closest to holmium.
