The tetrachloridoaurate/chloride substructure of compound 2, polymorph 2c, viewed perpendicular to ( $[\overline{1}]$ 0 2). Dashed lines indicate Au⋯Cl or Cl⋯Cl contacts. In this view direction, the labelled free chlorides Cl22 (bridging Au4 and Au5) and Cl24 (bridging Au1 and Au3) exactly overlap in the centre of the diagram. Further out, towards the edges, they can be distinguished clearly. The atoms Au2, Cl5 and Cl7 are transformed by (−x, 1 − y, 1 − z) from the asymmetric unit.
