Purity and crystals of StARD3LBD. (a) Purified StARD3LBD (15 µg) was analyzed by SDS–PAGE and stained with Coomassie Blue. The most prominent (∼90%) protein co-elutes with a 25 kDa molecular-weight marker (expected mass 29 953 Da). (b) Rod-shaped crystals grew in 1–2 d. The scale bar indicates 100 µm. Crystals of StARD3LBD are colorless (top, middle) and acquire a golden color when stored in solutions also containing powdered lutein (bottom).
