Overlay of part of the ligand-binding sites of the Val58Ile ds-TrpR structure with bound L-Trp (green boxes around the labels for Ile58 and L-­Trp) and the dimeric structure of wild-type TrpR with bound 5-methyl L-­Trp (PDB entry 6f9k; gray boxes around the labels for Ile58 and 5-MT). For simplicity only a short helical segment (cartoon ribbon) of each TrpR structure was overlaid in an orientation similar to that of Fig. 1[link](a). Ligands and nearby residues are shown as stick models with red O atoms and blue N atoms. The dotted yellow line indicates the distance between the Ile58 methyl group of Val58Ile ds-TrpR and the ligand 5-methyl group from the overlaid structure of wild-type TrpR with bound 5-MT.
