(b) Stationary background profile (μ′) of the PCA data set. In the results presented in Section 5[link], variance across X was measured from μ′, as opposed to the true mean μ, to measure the evolution of satellite intensities accurately beyond the onset. μ′ constitutes a significant improvement on the background profile depicted in Fig. 2(b), as there is a significant reduction in noise within the satellite region.
