While the form of a1 closely resembles that shown in Fig. 9, the amplitudes are shifted, evolving from negative to positive values. This is a poor representation of the satellite's evolution. (b) Stationary background profile (μ′) of the PCA data set. In the results presented in Section 5[link], variance across X was measured from μ′, as opposed to the true mean μ, to measure the evolution of satellite intensities accurately beyond the onset. μ′ constitutes a significant improvement on the background profile depicted in Fig. 2(b), as there is a significant reduction in noise within the satellite region.
