In the solid state, the novel ligand 6,6'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridyl (dmbp), C₁₂H₁₂N₂, is a planar centrosymmetric molecule in which the pyridyl N atoms have a transoid arrangement, by virtue of the symmetry.
