The crystal structure of [Cu{C(CN)₃}(C₁₀H₈N₂)₂][C(CN)₃] is formed by discrete [Cu(bipy)₂{C(CN)₃}]⁺ cations and [C(CN)₃]^- anions (bipy is 2,2'-bipyridine). The coordination polyhedron of Cu^II is a distorted trigonal bipyramid with a {CuN₅} chromophore.
