The structure determination of the D-3-phosphoglycerate dianion in the calcium salt is reported, Ca2+.C3H5O7P1)2-.4H2O. The P-O ester bond length is 1.602 (1) Å. The crystal structure is governed by calcium-oxygen interactions and hydrogen bonds. The Ca2+ cations are seven-coordinate, with Ca-O distances in the range 2.272 (2)-2.474 (2) Å.
