metal-organic compounds
The title compound, bis(tetraphenylphosphonium) -oxalato-O1,O2:O1',O2' -bis[aqua(oxalato-O1,O2)oxovanadium(IV)] octahydrate, [(C6H5)4P]2[V2O2(C2O4)3(H2O)2].8H2O, consists of an anionic vanadyl dimer which is linked by an oxalate ligand, and additionally coordinated by two non-bridging oxalates and two water molecules. The bridging, as well as the non-bridging, oxalates act as bidentate chelating ligands, forming five-membered rings with the metal centres. The VIV atoms are six-coordinated, forming a distorted octahedral geometry. A two-dimensional hydrogen-bonding network of water molecules and oxalate O atoms stabilizes the structure.
