Fabrication of an implantable dual-material cardiac patch composed of a 3D-printed porous alginate filled with fibrin. Using a 3D-bioplotter (a) alginate (2.5%) strands are plotted layer by layer into the calcium chloride (b) in order to obtain a porous 3D structure with 0/90° printing pattern (c) with a strand size of ∼300 µm and strand clearance of ∼500 µm filled with fibrin infusion (d) before implanting the patch proximal to the LAD ligature on the rat heart (e,f).
