Schematic drawing of an adiabatically focusing CRL for X-rays. The X-ray beam runs along the central axis from left to right. Ai, Ri and Li are, respectively, the geometrical aperture, the radius at the apex and the length along the beam direction of the ith lens surface. If the lens surfaces are assumed to be parabolic as in Schroer & Lengeler (2005BB15), Li = Ai2/(8Ri). q1i and q2i are, respectively, the distance of the object and the distance of the image of the ith lens surface from that surface's apex.
