Loading and diffraction geometries for dynamic X-ray diffraction measurements under extreme conditions. Here shock loading of nanocrystalline Ta is used as an example of loading. Longitudinal and transverse diffraction geometries are illustrated, referring to the cases with the incident X-ray direction being parallel or perpendicular to the loading direction, respectively.
