(a) Sketch of a Kirkpatrick–Baez vacuum chamber accommodating two holders. The system consists of two elliptical mirrors, focusing the source at a finite distance separately in the vertical and horizontal directions. The source is located at the first focus of each ellipse, while the focal plane is at the second focus. The demagnification is given by the ratio between the mirror–source and mirror–focal-plane distances. (b) Mirrors and holders as mounted in the KB vacuum chamber.
