Averaged FWHM values of the spikes for different SASE pulses (green) are depicted. In addition, the ensemble averaged value for all SASE pulses (blue) is shown which is [\bar{\tau}_{\rm c,pulses}] = 0.174 fs. The red lines mark the standard deviation of [\bar{\tau}_{\rm c,pulses}] which is [\Delta\tau] = 0.034 fs. This figure thus exemplifies the shot-to-shot fluctuation of the theoretically calculated SASE pulses (Saldin et al., 1999BB35).
