Figure 11
Results of an EXAFS data fitting procedure of Nb foils heat-treated in nitrogen atmospheres at 900°C for different pressures and times as a function of the N2 exposure, i.e. the product of the N2 pressure and the time of the treatment in N2. For the measurements, the samples were cooled to liquid-nitrogen temperature (∼80 K) to reduce thermal vibrations and to increase the accuracy of the fit results. (a) Plot of the distances of the first two Nb–Nb coordination shells (R1, R2), dashed trend lines show the increase of the determined bond distances with N2 exposure, and (b) mean-squared displacements ([\sigma_1^2], [\sigma_2^2]) with a common trend line for both shells. See text for more details.
