Calculated focal spots produced by ALS beamline 12.2.2 with the diaboloid approximated by four surfaces: (a) a cone (sagittal linearly varying circular section) bent to a parabola in the tangential direction, (b) a cylinder (sagittal uniform circular section) bent to a parabola in the tangential direction, (c) a cylinder (sagittal uniform elliptical section) bent to a parabola in the tangential direction, and (d) like (b) but in the exact 1:2 configuration (M = q:p = 9.4:18.8). For comparison, the exact diaboloid gives a spot size of 10 µm × 18 µm [Fig. 4[link](b2)].
