A minimum is reached when the product Cl 2×r reaches a maximum, i.e. the time decreases with beam rate until the effect of the non-proportional counting (resulting from event pile-up) becomes dominant. The optimum beam rate and corresponding counting efficiency are marked with a dotted line for both energies.
