Schematic angular relations between the beam, sample and analyzer: (a) side view from the direction perpendicular to the horizontal beam and (b) side view from the beam direction. θx is the photoemission angle along the longer side direction of the rectangular entrance slit of the hemisphere. θy is the deflection angle along the shorter side direction of the slit. The rotation axis θ1 is used for setting the glancing angle.
