Parallel beam tomographic imaging of an object f(x, y, z) with a rotation axis in the [\hat{z}] direction. X-rays moving from left to right pass through the object producing a projection image p(t, z) on the detector (grid on far right). The object is rotated and imaged iteratively, producing the full tomographic data set p(t, θ, z). The vertical dashed lines indicate the location of the axis of rotation in each of the three domains. If the axis of rotation is aligned with the [\hat{z}] axis, we can reconstruct 2D slices of the object f(x, y) at z from sinograms p(t, θ) at z.
