Peak fitting, noise and background removal for C 1s simulated data for four photon energies hν ∈ {650, 958, 1576, 1884} eV. The true signal of interest (green) and the background (blue) are compared with the estimation computed with SPANCF routines (scattered dots). The true noise (brown) is similar to the estimated noise, either from SPANCF processing (pink) or the proposed noise estimation (purple) described in Appendix A[link].
