The origin of the coordinate system is taken at the pole of the mirror, with the x axis in the sagittal direction, the y axis in the tangential direction and the z axis normal to the mirror surface. In the yz plane of symmetry, p is the distance from the source point to the mirror pole, qtan represents the distance from the mirror pole to the tangential focus and θ is the angle of incidence on the mirror at the pole.
