The change in the tunneling current above the central fullerene (circled in white) of a 36 local structure of the QC monolayer. The blue dots in the STM images indicate the position of the tip. During the measurements, the feedback loop was turned off to maintain a constant tip-to-sample distance, while a bias voltage of 3.2 V was applied. The tunneling current changes are a result of the flip between two degenerate orientations of the central fullerene, as can be seen in the STM images (2.5 nm × 2.5 nm, Ubias = 2.22 V, Iset = 0.44 nA, slightly low pass filtered).
