The layered structure of (I) projected along [110]. Oxalate groups provide a linkage between (001) layers of CrO4(H2O)2 octahedra and parallel layers of eight-coordinated Rb atoms (large spheres). The single medium-strong hydrogen bond strengthening the octahedral layer is shown as a dashed line in the top left-hand part of the figure. The unit cell is outlined.
