Residues α119 and β125 are located on two opposite edges of the α1β1 interface. Residue pairs α119–β55 and α34 (or α50)–β125 are like two switches of the α1β1 dimer. The thin line and thick line represent the haem group and Cα trace of the α and β subunit, respectively. The thickest lines represent the side chains of the two residue pairs. The view in (b) is perpendicular to that in (a).
