FimH complexes and representations of the 2mFo − DFc electron-density maps for the ligands (a) CtbP bound in the closed tyrosine gate with CtbP contoured at 2.0σ, (b) CcbP bound in the open tyrosine gate of FimH contoured at 1.0σ, (c) CN (chain B) bound in the half-open tyrosine gate and contoured at 1.0σ and (d) CN (chain A) bound in the open tyrosine gate contoured at 1.0σ. In the latter, the naphthyl group cannot be stabilized and we observed a continuum of electron density for the ligand from Ile13 to Tyr48.
