The difference spectrum [μR − μL] (R = right, L = left) obtained by flipping the QWP offset between ±75 arcsec is measured with applied fields +B and −B at the Gd L3 edge. The half-difference of the two spectra (Diff, full line) is identical to the XMCD signal obtained as [μR(+B) − μR(−B)] (squares). The residual signal (Sum) derives mainly from the different absorption of the diamond crystal at ±Δθ.
